First Steps: let’s talk background & how we got started
From side gig to full on business
My client Mario has been a DJ for fun since college. He had recently started booking several events a month and turning this side gig into a stable operation. He wanted to look more professional to clients and define himself as a real business.
Next Steps
He had been working on his website and realized he was missing the branding behind his DJ Jason Stella persona. It was time to bring this brand to life! We started off with the logo and color branding.
Research & Discovery: Understanding the business
In order to create a logo that represents DJ Jason Stella, I got to know his business and individual personality. I like to figure out how the client sees their business now and where they’d like to see it in the future. Here’s some of that info that inspired my creations:
DJ Inspiration
Diplo
Tiesto
Steve Aoki
Skrillex
DJ Events
Corporate-level parties
Exercise classes
Local charity events
Bat mitzvahs

design process: all the iterations
Sketches on Sketches
I drew up a ton of ideas and then marked my favorites with a star. I then shared these favorite ideas with DJ Jason Stella, and we chose our top 6 to move forward with.
Digital WIP: The Final 6
After several days of creating and tweaking these ideas, finding the perfect fonts and working with different colors, I shared these 6 lockups with the client. He took some time to sit with these ideas and decide what best spoke to this brand and the identity he’s built as a DJ.
Final Design: We have a brand!
Happy client, happy creative
After reviewing the final 2 logo ideas, DJ Jason Stella felt that this design was upbeat, unique and had a sleek entertainment vibe to it. He said he could see this on a festival lineup poster, which is exactly what he was going for! He absolutely loves this design and has implemented it across all of his socials, website pages and any events he works. This project was incredibly fun to work on and I’m beyond happy he’s enjoying his brand coming to life.
